For over 18 years Dr. Rizzo has worked with children and
families in both the public and private sectors.
Dr. Rizzo received his undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Religion from the University of Miami. He earned his Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and his Doctorate in Leadership, with a specialization in Counseling, from Barry University.
While in the public education system, Dr. Rizzo served
as a school psychologist. In that role, he was charged
with numerous special assignments, including representing
Miami-Dade County Public Schools on state committees, serving
on district committees charged with developing criteria
and procedures for gifted children's programs, learning
disabilities programs, developing procedures for assessing
Limited English Proficient students, and developing and
implementing crisis intervention procedures. In addition,
Dr. Rizzo served as a District Chairperson for Psychological
Services in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. While in
that role, he was assigned by superintendent level administrators
to evaluate and intervene with some of the most difficult
cases that presented themselves in Miami-Dade County Public
Schools.
Dr. Rizzo has been an adjunct faculty member at numerous
local universities where he specialized in training future
teachers and mental health professionals at the graduate
level in the areas of special educational and assessment.
Dr. Rizzo left public education for private practice in
1997. Soon after forming a private practice, Dr. Rizzo
was asked to serve as the primary coordinator of psychological
services at the Miami Children's Hospital - Dan Marino
Center in Weston , Florida . He became and remains the
only school psychologist ever credentialed by Miami Children's
Hospital. There he has assisted thousands of children and
their families in maximizing the potential within each
child through diagnosis, treatment, linkages to care, and
educational advocacy.
As an outcome of Dr. Rizzo's involvement in assessment
and treatment with special needs populations, he has become
recognized as a regional expert in the diagnosis and treatment
of Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder. |
